Community facilities

Community Centre

Residents living at Chatham Maritime enjoy a host of community facilities, and on St Mary’s island there are a number of amenities to make life easier.

A state-of-the-art community centre opened on the island in December 2004 and is now used by a number of different organisations, from mother-and-toddler groups to dance troupes and aerobics classes.

The centre can also be rented out for parties, meetings and functions. For more information or to book a room call 01634 890072.

Next door is the 3 GP Doctors’ surgery which opened in September 2005, replacing the temporary surgery which had served the island for the last four years. Run by GP Dr Lawrence, the surgery takes residents from the island and encourages students from the University of Medway to register as well. To contact the surgery call 01634 890712

Four churches use the St Mary’s Island Church of England Primary School as a base for their congregations - The Christian Church on St. Mary's Island works in partnership with St. Mark's (C of E) Church, Gillingham, Gillingham Baptist Church and The Medway Towns Group of United Reformed Churches.
