![]() Education is of the utmost importance at Chatham Maritime and the facilities available here for learning show the commitment SEEDA has made to this crucial aspect of the site.
As well as a day nursery and primary school for younger children, the site is home to the Universities at Medway - a unique partnership made up of the University of Greenwich, University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University and Mid-Kent College. The Universities at Medway has received nearly £50m in funding, including £15m from the DCLG (formerly the ODPM) and £8.6m from SEEDA. Other funders include Medway Council, the universities themselves and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). The initiative has meant that many local people who before felt they could not financially support themselves while doing a degree or course away from home are now able to take advantage of the opportunity to study while living at home. The scheme has also attracted a large number of foreign students who have chosen to study in the South East of England. |
