Universities at Medway (UaM) is an innovative partnership between the universities of Greenwich, Kent and Canterbury Christ Church, along with Mid-Kent College. The four institutions share a new campus at Chatham Maritime, working together to respond to the educational and training needs of Medway and the Thames Gateway. The campus is also home to the new Medway School of Pharmacy which opened in 2004.

With a comprehensive curriculum which promotes the progression routes from further to higher education, UaM is set to transform education in a region where the proportion of people who are in higher education is below the national average.

Student numbers on the shared campus are predicted to rise to 6,000 by the year 2007 and the increase in graduates resulting from UaM will not only ease current skills shortages in Medway and the Thames Gateway, it will also support the area’s economic regeneration. The initiative will have a substantial impact on  the local economy, generating approximately £10 million of additional expenditure each year.

A strong sense of community is already developing on the campus and the new UaM football team has the support of the Dockside Outlet Centre at Chatham Maritime, kitting them out with new strips. Students on the shared campus are represented by the Universities at Medway Students’ Association whichever institution they belong to.
