University of Kent at Medway

In 2001 the University of Kent at Medway (UKM) was established following an agreement between Mid-Kent College and the University of Kent. Initially UKM students studied at Mid-Kent's Horsted campus but in 2005 the new Medway Building opened and Kent students started their studies on the new shared campus. Opened by Dame Kelly Holmes, the Medway Building was designed by leading architects RMJM. It has first-class teaching spaces and offers state-of-the-art facilities for students on the Sport, Health and Fitness and Music Technology degrees. The second Kent building on the campus is due for completion this autumn.

Students on the shared campus study a range of subjects from business studies to IT and law. This includes both postgraduate and undergraduate students as well as those on short and professional development courses.

As well as having close links with regional business, UKM is associated with a number of community schemes such as Pride in Medway, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Medway Youth Parliament. The campus also has a growing number of student volunteers working in the community.

The University's Bridge Wardens' College is in the nearby Chatham Historic Dockyard.
